SplashCast First to Launch on MySpace Platform

Without a lot of fanfare, MySpace launched their Developer Platform today. SplashCast is one of only a few developers launching applications on day one — which was also the case with Facebook’s platform launch in May of 2007. Mashable, Centernetworks, SiliconFlorist, and TechVibes all covered our MySpace launch today.
The lack of fanfare for MySpace is likely due to the fact that the MySpace Platform is still very much vapor-ware. The skeleton of an API exists, but guts are missing. For Flash application developers, there is very little social graph interaction & messaging enabled at this point. It’s a bit disappointing that even after 10 months of watching and learning from Facebook, MySpace couldn’t even bring a fully-implemented product to market - much less a game-changing product. There is no leap-frogging here, folks.
We certainly expect that the MySpace Platform will be soon completed and will mature over time. We will be right there with them, ensuring our clients are able to take full advantage of the social interactions happening in the largest social network on the planet.
Here is a list of the SplashCast apps that launched today on the MySpace platform:
Hillary Speaks For Me for Hillary Clinton
Ashley Tisdale for Warner Bros (Warner Music Group)
Justin Timberlake for Zomba Label Group (Sony BMG)
Chris Brown for Zomba Label Group (Sony BMG)
Britney Spears for Zomba Label Group (Sony BMG)
Snoop Dog for Universal Music Group
Rothbury Music Festival for AEG
